Evgeniya Kashina's seascapes in the musical-theatrical production "Flower from Madagascar" (scriptwriter D.M. Volodikhin) performed by the Alexander Polyakov production center.
This holiday, dedicated to the publication of Ivan Fedorov's Apostle, the first printed book in Rus' (March 1, 1564, old style), was established by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2009. Since 2010, Orthodox Book Day has been celebrated in all dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk, Chairman of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives of the Moscow authorities, and clergy participated in the celebration held in the Church Council Hall.
The meeting was attended by 1,300 children from Moscow, the Moscow region, and neighboring regions—cadets, Sunday school students, children from large families, and social institutions. As is traditional, children with developmental disabilities from the Scientific and Practical Center for Child Psychoneurology of the Moscow Department of Health also participated.
The children's musical and theatrical production "Flower from Madagascar" (script by D.M. Volodikhin) was presented on the stage of the Hall of Church Councils. The production featured material from the book "Sukhareva Tower," published by Lingua-F and written by O.E. Ivanova-Golitsyna. The book won the "Enlightenment through Books" competition of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church. The production also featured paintings by Evgenia Kashina (seascapes, shown on-screen).
"Flower from Madagascar" is a children's musical operetta based on the play by historian and writer Dmitry Volodikhin. The plot transports the audience to the era of Peter the Great and tells a romantic story of sea adventures, courage, and the love of two young hearts.
The vocal talents and performances of the young actors from the Moscow Philharmonic left no one indifferent.
The audience witnessed a lyrical story that is not fictional—it once actually took place in Russia, but, of course, artistically transformed by the author's creative vision.
The audience tasted the free winds of change of the Peter the Great era—the spirit of sea adventures, the intoxicating romance of midshipmen, and the invincible love of two hearts united by a common spiritual longing—a desire for a rich spiritual life and enlightenment through books.
The play was staged by renowned Moscow director and producer Alexander Polyakov, based on the book "Sukharev Tower" by O. Ivanova-Golitsyna (published by Lingua-F and winning the "Enlightenment through Book" competition of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church). The script for the musical play based on this work was written by Dmitry Volodikhin, winner of the 2019 Patriarchal Cyril and Methodius Literary Prize.

A book presentation was also held and a video about the Sukharev Tower was shown.
All participants received candy boxes and book sets provided by the Moscow Government, as well as Orthodox publishing houses—the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius Publishing House, the Moscow Patriarchate Publishing House, Lepta-Kniga, Nikeya, Simvolik, Sibirskaya Blagozvonnitsa, and the Biblio-Globus Trading House.
